< Return to Events and Press Releases Attend 8/21 Press Conference Regarding Blacks Hired At Slavery Memorial/President's House ProjectBrothers and Sisters, Did you know that President George Washington enslaved our ancestors at America's first "White House" here in Philadelphia at the current site of the new Liberty Bell Center? Did you know that Avenging The Ancestors Coalition (ATAC) and others won the battle to force the federal government to agree to the construction of a historic Slavery Memorial/President's House project at that site? Did you know that ATAC and others are now winning the battle to make sure that today's free Black sons and daughters of yesterday's enslaved Black fathers and mothers play a major role in the creation and construction of that project? As a result of that employment battle, 70 percent of the project's design and content workers are Black and at least 45 percent of the project's construction-related workers will be Black! Let's show our support for this historic Slavery Memorial/President's House project. And let's show our support for even more jobs for Black folks at that site. We can do this by attending the Mayor's Oversight Committee press conference on Friday, August 21 at 11:30 a.m. at The People's Plaza, located at 5th and Market. Mayor Michael Nutter and Chief Designer/Architect Emanuel Kelly (who, by the way, is a Black man) will be the featured speakers at this press conference. Spread the word. Bring some friends. And don't forget to wear your ATAC buttons. For more info, contact ATAC at 215/552-8751 or ATAC@avengingtheancestors.com. |
