"In August 1831, the Honorable Nat Turner gathered Black Family together in the woods of Southampton County, VA and plotted a rebellion against the white plantation owners. The uprising sparked a flame that fueled other imprisoned Brothers and Sisters to take up arms all over the south, putting intense pressure on the white plantation owners to end chattel slavery."
