View the Slavery Memorial/President's House Plan and Comment

  • George Washington enslaved our ancestors in Philadelphia at America's first "White House," which was located at the current site of the new Liberty Bell Center at Sixth and Market.
  • Since 2002, Avenging The Ancestors Coalition (ATAC) has been fighting for a memorial to honor our ancestors. And that fight has finally been won!
  • Now that the Slavery Memorial/President's House project — which was designed by a Black architect — is under construction and is nearly completed, the City of Philadelphia has a proposed exhibit plan on display at the Independence Visitor Center (located on the northeast corner of Sixth and Market, across from the Liberty Bell Center). You can go there and see that plan, and while there you can submit a supportive comment card regarding what you like about it or what should be done to make it even better than it already is.
  • Or you can easily, clearly, and quickly view the entire plan online and also submit your supportive comment card online. Simply log onto www.ushistory.org/presidentshouse/plans/eisterhold/. It's that easy. But you must do it by the May 3 DEADLINE. Make sure you include your name and phone number. And don't forget to point out that you're an ATAC member or supporter.
